Noynoy's other 'weaknesses' revealed
MANILA, Philippines – What are the other "weaknesses" of President-elect Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III other than his smoking habit?
According to his eldest sister, Maria Elena “Ballsy” Aquino-Cruz, these are chocolates and eating out.
Aquino-Cruz was guest of Ted Failon in ABS-CBN's News and Current Affairs show “Failon Ngayon” aired on Saturday night.
Aquino-Cruz told Failon they remain hopeful their brother will eventually quit smoking.
“Palagay ko naman [he will stop smoking] at umaasa kaming lahat,” she said.
She said they understood that Aquino needed to stick to the habit for a while to relieve himself of stress, especially during the gruelling 90-day election campaign.
“Nung kampanya, merong nagtanong sa kanya eh. Sabi niya, 'palagay ko naman [I can beat the habit]. Pero pagbigyan n'yo ako habang eleksyon pa. Kelangan ko ito talaga para maka-unwind, para ma-de-stress,'” Aquino-Cruz said.
She also disclosed the other weaknesses of her brother are that he loves to eat chocolate and to eat out.
“Mahilig siya sa tsokolate. Anything chocolate, ice cream na chocolate flavor. Siguro, pinakabisyo na nga niya is paninigarilyo and siguro eating out. But it doesn't have to be in expensive restaurants,” said Aquino-Cruz.
A karaoke president?
Unknown to many, Aquino said the president-elect sings very well.
In fact, she is so confident about her brother’s musical talent that she believes he can qualify in singing contests.
“Talagang magaling siya, mahilig siyang kumanta, at mananalo siya sa mga contests eh,” she said.
When asked if the president-elect ever shed tears to her, Aquino-Cruz said never.
“There were times in the past na pag may problema siya, naguusapan kami ng seryosohan. But never in tears,” she said.
About losing their mother
Aquino-Cruz confessed that she feared losing her mother, the late former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, after she was diagnosed to have colon cancer.
“After 2 days, I wrote her a letter telling her the many things I wanted to tell her, that it was really my greatest fear to lose her. But then I told her that I was being selfish,” she said.
She said the family leaned on their mother for moral strength, and that Mrs. Aquino had the answers to every problem they faced.
“Sabi ko, hindi kakayanin ng kahit sino sa aming limang [magkakapatid] ‘yun, pero kung magtulungan kaming lahat, makakamtan din natin ‘yun,” said Aquino-Cruz.
“Kaya ang sinabi ko ang mapapangako ko sa kanya ay sisiguraduhin ko na kaming lima ay hindi magkakawatak-watak at talagang laging magiging nadoon para sa isa't isa,” she added.
