MANILA - A public service announcement (PSA) of Bantay Bata featuring Mark "The Filipino Wrecking Machine" Muñoz has won an Emmy at the awards ceremony held recently in San Francisco, California.
The Filipino Channel's Maria Pilar Lopezbanos-Carrion, who co-produced and co-wrote the PSA, received the award on behalf of her team at the gala night of the 43rd Northern California Area Emmy Awards.
In her acceptance speech, Lopezbanos-Carrion thanked director Jeremiah Ysip, photographer Eugene Libadia, and lighting director and husband Michael Angelo Carrion.
She also dedicated the award to The Filipino Channel, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, as well as to the ABS-CBN Foundation International "for whom [they] created this spot."
The short PSA, which runs for 45 seconds, shows two scenes cross-cutting with each other -- Muñoz' training routine and homeless children going through garbage in order to "survive."
The Filipino-American UFC fighter narrates the clip, urging viewers to reach out to the children.
"Let us open our hearts and help these children in their fight for survival," he says.
"I am Mark Muñoz and I dedicate my fights to the children of the Philippines," he adds.
