MANILA, Philippines - Stage musicals "Stomp" and "Mamma Mia" will be staged in the country in the near future.
Organizers Lunchbox Theatrical Productions Ltd. and Concertus gave the good news during the press preview of "The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber," which opened at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) last week.
Here, veteran actors such as Singaporean-Australian Alinta Chidzey performed songs from Lloyd Webber's works "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Sunset Boulevard" and "Evita."
"She's definitely my idol," said Chidzey, referring to Tony Award-winning performer Lea Salonga who starred in the local staging of "Cats," one of Lloyd Webber's most commercially successful musicals.
"Stomp" is a show that features a combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy. "Mamma Mia," on the other hand, is a stage musical based on the songs of the Swedish pop group ABBA.
By next year, Lunchbox and Concertus will be looking for Filipino actors for the Manila production of another Lloyd Webber musical, "Phantom of the Opera." -- Report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
