MANILA, Philippines – Behind every great man is a great woman, an old saying goes. In the case of award-winning broadcaster Anthony Taberna, that woman is no other than Rossel Velasco-Taberna.

Bright and independent, Velasco-Taberna is an entrepreneur, managing a salon and an events and multimedia agency.

She is also an endorser of Immuvit, a multivitamin supplement.

“Every day, I wake up at 4 a.m. to prepare my husband’s things for his 4:45 a.m. ‘Umagang Kay Ganda’ program,” Velasco-Taberna said.

“After that, I check my e-mail and list down my agenda for office and client meetings. At 6:30 a.m., my kids will wake up and we will have breakfast together.

“I’ll leave the house by 7:30 a.m. and work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or even later if I have late client meetings. I also see to it that I would go to our salon, check on our staff and also entertain our regular clients each day,” she added.

Despite all these projects, Velasco-Taberna still finds quality time for her husband and two daughters, Zoey and Helga.

“I can say that I balance my time well – I can still look after my kids while I manage our businesses,” she added. “I juggle my time by going home in between meetings or, sometimes, I bring my kids to my workplace.”

Velasco, however, is not contented with just bonding with her children. She said she wants them to learn as many skills as possible, from swimming to ballet.

“Seeing them perform on stage is priceless,” she said.

Family time

For Velasco-Taberna, weekends are solely for her husband and children.

“We see to it that we spend it with our kids since we have a tight weekday schedule,” she said.

“During weekends, we usually go home to our provinces, either in Nueva Ecija or Calamba, Laguna to visit our families,” she added. “We also love quick outings and our favorite getaway is Fontana Leisure Park where the kids never get tired of swimming.”

“We also bring them to places like Manila Ocean Park where they can watch shows and see different animals.”

Velasco-Taberna added that they also like going to malls and watching movies. But Sunday, she said, is strictly devoted to the church.

“Everyone attends the Sunday morning worship service and Zoey and Helga regularly attend the Children’s Worship Service, which is sometimes facilitated by their Daddy Tunying who happens to preach in our locale,” she said.
