Cafe 5845: A love affair with cheese
MANILA, Philippines - Cheese, the milk-based tasty treat that has captured the hearts of food lovers across the globe, is set to have a month-long fling with over 5,000 dishes.
And we're not just talking about cheese on toast -- think berry mascarpone and cream cheese cake with vanilla bavaroise; and goat cheese-crusted lamb with thyme-flavored jus and pink peppercorn gnocchi.
All these will be prepared by chefs from the Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA) at no less than the world's very first cheese cafe.
The venue, aptly called Cafe 5845, celebrates the country's record-breaking achievement 3 years ago.
In 2007, MIHCA and Kraft Foods Philippines served 5,845 cheese-infused dishes, beating India's Guinness world record of a seemingly unbreakable 4,668.

"What MIHCA and Kraft Foods has done gave great Filipino pride, that's why we wanted to commemorate this culinary milestone with our fellow Filipinos," said Alex Dan Tacderas, category manager for cheese and spoonables of Kraft Foods Philippines.
Cafe 5845 will be located at the SM Mall of Asia and will be serving 5,845 cheese-infused dishes within a month. Different offerings will be available daily, said Chef Giovasco Barlao, MIHCA's vice president and head of operations.
Its official launch has yet to be announced, but Barlao guaranteed that it's going to be a one-of-a-kind experience.
"Everyone is in for something deliciously unique once Cafe 5845 is open for business," he said.
