MANILA, Philippines - For the first dinner of President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III with the diplomatic corps and top government officials at 6 p.m. Wednesday night at Malacañang Palace, a simple but delicious Filipino buffet will be laid out. Among the food to be served are pan de sal with grilled Laguna cheese ("kesong puti") and Vigan longganisa.

Guests will also get a taste of pritchon--suckling pig cooked Peking duck-style.

The other dishes are roast corned beef, sweet potato and mashed squash.

Halo-halo, the Filipino favorite iced concoction with leche flan, gelatin, beans, sago, nata de coco, kaong, milk and ice cream among others, will be served.

Those who prefer a simpler dessert can opt for guinomis, an iced concoction like halo-halo but with fewer ingredients and topped with crispy pinipig.

And of course, there will be a touch of yellow. Pastillas with a yellow Noynoy ribbon will be available.

The inaugural dinner is to be kept simple in accordance with the Aquino family's wishes.

The Aquino clan is supposed to be at the dinner, but according to Bettina Osmeña of the inaugural committee, the Aquino sisters have decided to skip the inaugural reception to give way to other visitors.

"We told them the space limitation dito sa palace. They already knew a lot will be left out, kaya sabi ni Ballsy, wag na lang kami imbitahin," said Osmeña.

Sushi, sashimi for lunch

Right after the inauguration of President Aquino at Quirino Grandstand, lunch will be served to 250 guests at Malacañang Palace.

Japanese food will be served, said to be the favorite cuisine of the new President.

There will be a sushi and sashimi station, a spot teppanyaki grill station, as well as yakitori, tempura, and Japanese fried rice.

And at the first Cabinet meeting to be held at the Aguinaldo state dining room at Malacañang Palace, a simple merienda of pizza, juice and coffee will be served Aquino and his Cabinet members. -- Report from Ron Gagalac, ABS-CBN News
