MANILA, Philippines - He may be a single man now, but he is certainly not loveless.

Champ Lui Pio, frontman of local alternative rock band Hale, is passionate about a lot of things -- from his music to helping those in need.

When he's not doing gigs with his band, the 28-year-old vocalist is busy working as a firefighter in Muntinlupa City or taking part in charity work.

"Right now, I'm busy with volunteering. It's the rainy season again and we're anticipating lots of typhoons so we're busy doing drills and preparing for rescue operations," Champ told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

Champ has another passion -- food -- although it doesn't show in his lean frame. He's so into it, in fact, that he can write a song about "love and sauce."

"I could probably write something about sauce. Different kinds of sauces, dips and spices. Para pwede about love, diba? Spicing up the relationship," Champ said.

He added, "It may be about sauce, but it has a different meaning."

Champ admits that he enjoys eating a lot, to the point that he tends to "stuff food in my mouth." Despite this, he prefers to keep it safe as he stays away from dogs, dinuguan (pork blood stew) and raw uni (sea urchin).

"I have a habit of eating mindlessly, but I'm not really that adventurous," Champ shared.

Here are Champ's answers to some of the questions posed by abs-cbnNEWS.com:

Give us 5 food items that we'll always find in your house. Wheat bread, Hungarian sausage, cereals, canned goods (because I don't cook), and lots of peanuts. I like eating peanuts for snacks, while watching TV or a DVD. That's my comfort food.

Give us 3 food items that you can eat for the rest of your life. Kare-kare (oxtail stew in a peanut-based sauce), bagnet (fried air-dried pork belly) from Ilocos, and the sinigang (sour soup, usually tamarind-based) of my mom. I also like eating tapsilog (a meal consisting of cured beef, garlic rice and fried egg).

Give us one outrageous thing that you've already eaten. Uni (sea urchin), the raw one.

What is one thing that you'll never, ever eat? Dogs. And dinuguan (pork blood stew). My religion (Iglesia ni Cristo) prohibits me.

If you're going to take someone out right now, where would you take her? For Japanese, Omakase. For steaks, Mamou.

Favorite place to go for dessert? Right now, I'm a halo-halo (an icy, creamy concoction of assorted sweets) person. Either that, or frozen yogurt.

Compare yourself to food. I'm like KFC, finger-licking good.
