ISABELA - In two months, Korean investors are planning to put up an energy plant in Gamu, Isabela - one that will run completely on garbage.
Isabela Vice Gov. Ramon Reyes said that he learned about the new technology on his trup to South Korea last month. He believes this will help the province cope with its waste management problems.
Although Reyes said he is not sure whether the plant would help lower power rates in the area, he said this might mitigate possible power shortages in the future and provide much-needed employment for Isabela residents.
On Monday, Reyes met with Korean investors to thresh out details about the energy plant like environmental permits and operational procedures.
Waste-to-energy plants like these are becoming increasingly common, especially in the United States. Intense heat is applied to waste in low-oxygen environments, producing synthetic gas that could be used to generate electricty. Report from Jeanna Ongan, ABS-CBN Cagayan Valley.
