2013 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Ariella Arida

MANILA – Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Ariella Arida is slowly feeling the pressure as the Miss Universe pageant approaches.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday, Arida admitted she got nervous when the place and date of the international pageant were finally announced.

“Na-feel ko 'yung pressure nung nalaman ko na kung saan 'yung place and kung kalian 'yung Miss Universe. Pero back to normal, focus na ulit ako sa training ko. Pero nung in-announce kung kailan 'yung Miss Universe, nagka-goosebumps talaga ako. Totoo pala lahat ito,” she said.

Three months after winning the crown of Bb. PIlipinas Universe, Arida said she is spending most of her time training.

“I’m doing all my training. It’s all for the country so kailangan ko talagang i-feel na ito. Prayers din talaga. Every week I go to church and pray for my success. Nagpapanata talaga ako na ibigay sa akin ang crown,” she said.

Aside from her regular training, Arida said she is also grateful for the advice given to her by her predecessors, Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Janine Tugonon.

“Nakausap ko na sila lahat. Mayroon silang iba’t ibang payo. 'Yung unang nagpayo sa akin si Janine. After winning, sinabi na agad niya sa akin na don’t feel pressured. I-enjoy ko lang daw siya kasi ganun ang ginawa niya during the competition,” she said.

She added: “Si Shamcey, sabi niya sa akin be yourself, be unique. Ngayon sa training, marami akong makukuha na advice, na knowledge. It’s up to me kung ano ang tatanggapin ko.”

As for what Raj told her, Arida said: “Si Venus, lagi niyang sinasabi na isipin ko na ako ang pinakamaganda. Kapag daw rumarampa, ako ang reyna.”

Last month, it was announced that the 2013 Miss Universe pageant will be held at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia on November 9.

In the upcoming beauty competition, three candidates with Filipino blood will compete for the most coveted crown.

Riza Santos, who rose to fame in the Philippines as a "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate, was crowned Miss Universe Canada. Although raised in Canada, the 25-year-old Santos is a pure Filipina. Her father, Ruel Santos, is from Bulacan. Her mother, Dina Buenaventura, hails from Bataan.

A relative newcomer to the Miss Universe pageant, the African country of Gabon, on the other hand, will send Ruth Jennifer Ondo Mouchita as its delegate to this year's competition.
