MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - Netizens from the Philippines and other parts of the world reacted strongly to news that 18-year-old international singing sensation Charice had a cosmetic procedure done on her face.

The topic became the 6th most discussed topic/personality on Twitter worldwide last night and became a hot topic on Facebook news feeds.

Charice's treatment was still a hot topic online the next day (Tuesday), becoming a Twitter trending topic again.

Reactions to the cosmetic procedure were both positive and negative.

Many said Charice is too young to undergo cosmetic enhancement.

A news video shown on "TV Patrol" Monday night showed Charice getting Botox injections from Dr. Vicki Belo of the Belo Medical Group. Botox is perceived to be an anti-aging medicine to ease wrinkles.

According to emedicine.medscape.com, Botulinum toxin has a muscle paralyzing feature and is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure worldwide.

Facial contouring

The Belo Medical Group disclosed that Charice's American management company already called to clarify that the procedure done on Charice is not a makeover.

Dr. Belo said Botox is a means of facial contouring to relax the jaw muscles of Charice.

The procedure will make Charice's squarish face a bit smaller after a few days.

The injections did not have any effect on Charice's singing. From Manila, Charice went to Japan for a show then is heading to Thailand and Malaysia for her recording promo tour.

Charice earlier said it was her decision to have the cosmetic procedure to prepare for her new TV show in the US, the hit musical series "Glee."
