'When you sing, you look so beautiful,' says another doctor

MANILA, Philippines - The recent news about singing sensation Charice's Botox treatment has shed light on the growing number of teens wanting to have cosmetic procedures.

Plastic surgeon and dermatologist Dr. Roberto Vasquez said he knows of teenagers as young as 15 years old who want to undergo cosmetic enhancements.

Marketing and media are key factors that have influenced this trend, according to Vasquez, who does not accept patients below 18 years old.

"Now, cosmetic surgery or aesthetic surgery is socially accepted. Dati tinatago. Now, [sinasabi na] 'nagpa-noselift ako.' Lahat, kahit sino puwede," said Vasquez.

He also said most Filipinas who seek cosmetic surgery ask for a nose lift. Breast enhancement is the next most popular cosmetic procedure.

Charice's Botox

International singing sensation Charice, 18, had Botox treatment on July 17 in preparation for her role in the US hit TV musical-comedy show Glee.

Vasquez said the procedure was possibly used to make Charice's jaw smaller.

"Normally, in the general population, you don't use Botox to treat 'yung big masseter [muscles], yung malaking panga. 'Yun yung sa kabataan in general. [But] maybe because [she's a] celebrity, they are using it aesthetically," said Vasquez.

Because of this, Charice's Web sites such as charicemania.com were flooded by comments from fans and detractors.

"We love you for what and who you are," wrote one fan.

Some fans even warned Charice that she might get Oprah's ire. Popular TV host Oprah has been credited for opening doors for Charice in the international scene.

"I hope Oprah won't get upset...I anticipate she will get upset at you on this," posted a user named oramata.

One psychologist said it is possible that Charice had the procedure because of the pressure brought on by her joining the cast of Glee.

"She's going to be competing with the Glee glee club. That's no joke. Kasi ang mga Amerikano, ang tatangkad, ang puputi, at magagandang nilalang. But she has to be reminded, 'Charice, you have your youth. When you sing, we all stop and listen. You don't need to do anything to your face because when you sing, you look so beautiful,'" said psychologist Dra. Estrella Magno.

"Kung anak ko siya, I'll tell her people liked you for your awesome talent and not because you look like Ms. Philippines. So don't touch anything," added Magno.

She advised parents to show their support for their children so they will not feel that they need to change themselves. -- Report from Timi Nubla, ABS-CBN News

Vicky "Bitch" Bello

It should be that "BITCH" Bello who should be blamed for what she did to Charice. Why did she allow an operation to be caught in camera and aired to the public.

It only proves her guilt in the Katrina-Hayden sex scandal. She's the one who distributed the video.

This woman is a spin-doctor. Now she has ruined the career of Charice. I am a fan of Charice and my daugther too.

To Charice, mistakes happen but never twice. We are still your fan.

botox

@syncmyworld - I agree with

@syncmyworld - I agree with you about Charice not needing this treatment, but I dont agree with the rest you stated. Jackson did that to himself. America didn't want him to be white. How did America turn him into a monster!!?? Judy Garland had plastic surgery? JFK did not molest Monroe. They had an affair, for goodness sake. And although I dont agree with what Belo did to Charice, I don't think her intention was to make her look like a transvestite! And lastly, that maid in Singapore didn't use just her charm to inherit that amount of money. She served her master well for 20 years! LOL! What have you been reading, my friend?!

Remember what America did to Michael Jackson & Judy Garland

If you think about what Americans did to Michael Jackson, who they made into a "freak," the temptations that Americans offer you are never worth it.

He just suffered all throughout his life even if he earned millions. They turned him into a monster. They have done this to many stars including Judy Garland from the Wizard of Oz, Marilyn Monroe who was molested by President John F. Kennedy, and many others who were conned by "gays."

They want you to look like a transvestite or be "gay" like them. But it's so dumb. That Filipina maid in Singapore who inherited millions of dollars from her Chinese employer is much smarter. She just used her charm and earned it easily.
