MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III's travel time to his office at Malacañang Palace may be cut down significantly next week if he moves to Bahay Pangarap inside the Presidential Security Group compound this weekend.

Bahay Pangarap has been chosen by President Aquino as his residence after he refused to live in Malacañang or the Arlegui Mansion, where his mother, the late President Corazon Aquino, lived with the family during her term from 1986 to 1992.

President Noynoy Aquino said both Malacañang Palace and the Arlegui Manson are too big for a bachelor like him.

The one-bedroom Bahay Pangarap, built to resemble a resort villa, had to be renovated to make room for Aquino's household staff who will live with him.

Col. Ramon Dizon, chief of the Presidential Security Group (PSG), said the renovations in Bahay Pangarap have been completed and security measures in the mansion are already in place.

"They've started cleaning the house two days ago. As far as I know, this weekend, we will be ready whenever the president wants to transfer. When that date is is up to the president," said Col. Dizon.

The PSG has also asked the Philippine Coast Guard to strengthen the security measures at the Pasig River which is right beside Bahay Pangarap.

Dizon added the repairs done at Bahay Pangarap were minor to keep the presidential residence simple.
