Cory's face graces new memorabilia, photo mosaic
MANILA, Philippines - Preparations are all set for former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino's death anniversary on Sunday, August 1. To mark the occasion, new Cory memorabilia have been produced featuring a new design: the Philippine map with the face of the late President.

Graphic artists Sandy and Badong Abesamis made the new design to honor Aquino, recognized as the mother of democracy.
The late President's face will also be shown in a giant photo mosaic to be unveiled at the Quirino Grandstand at the Luneta on Saturday.
The giant photo mosaic, measuring 250 feet by 200 feet, will hopefully make it to the Guinness Book of World Records. The current world record for the biggest photo mosaic is 93 feet by 68 feet only.

The Cory photo mosaic, when laid out fully, is equal to the area of 10 NBA-sized basketball courts.
"Ilalatag ito doon for 7 days so people can see it," said Deedee Siytangco, member of the Cory Veterans group.
The photo mosaic printed on tarpaulin is made up of thousands of photos culled from the Internet and other sources.
President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino, assisted by 100 athletes, will unveil the tarpaulin of the Cory photo mosaic.
Sponsors from the private sector have paid for the cost of the photo mosaic, said to cost over P2 million.
"No icon can fit it apart from her. We want to show the whole world," said Anthony Gaw of GTI Printers.
Student Julian Paguiligan, winner of the Directories Philippines Corporation art contest, will also present President Aquino with a copy of his winning painting depicting the late President Cory.
People Power People Movement
On Sunday, the Aquino family and supporters will launch the People Power People Movement which was started by President Cory in 2003.
Her nephew Rapa Lopa said people power is not just about politics but also about the unity of Filipinos toward change.
"It's a mother and son call. Let's get our act together and help to make our country better," said Lopa.
There will also be a Mass at La Salle Greenhills to mark the late President's death anniversary.
A historical marker will also be unveiled on Sunday at the La Salle Greenhills Gym. Still written on a blackboard in the gym are the figures representing the votes President Cory got during the presidential election against Ferdinand Marcos back in 1986. This is also where the National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) had its central operations in 1986, which played a pivotal role in the People Power revolution that year. -- Report from Jing Castañeda, ABS-CBN News

Extravagance!
Another extravagance! If Cory is alive, I am confident she would rather wish these expenditures distributed to the needy. These pictures are non-sense! What Cory needed are prayers for peace and unity. If the proceeds of these expenditures were instead used to buy even just bread and drinks for the poor while saying prayers in the park then it should have been more beneficial.
For us to believe that these were initiated by private sectors, can you itemize their names? Even if this is true, for sure they are the leeches of the society who sucks to the President for their own unending greediness, (mga sip-sip). Or, are these again the idea of government officials spending people's money para sumipsip sa Presidente? I am just hoping that the President will think about this and admonish all government officials to san this kind of attitude. Cory and the Filipino people do not need this. What we
need are honesty, loyalty and dedication. Magbago na tayo!
