MANILA, Philippines – After premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York last April, the documentary on Journey frontman Arnel Pineda is set to hit theaters in the United States and in the Philippines.

Award-winning filmmaker Ramona Diaz, who was behind “Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey,” said the documentary may be released in the country next year.

“We premiered that at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York last April. Beginning of next year, it’s going to be in theaters in the US, it was just picked up by distribution,” Diaz said in an interview on “Mornings@ANC” on Monday. “We’re hoping to release here the same time we release in the US.”

Diaz is busy promoting her newest documentary titled “The Learning,” which chronicles the personal journey of four Filipino teachers seeking a better life in the US.

“I just want to pay homage to the OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) because I think they’re really brave doing what they do,” she said. “I just want to walk in their shoes for a year, which I did.”

“The big thing was the American dream, to go to the US. But what is the American dream about? They always talk about it.

“This is the film that shows that. It’s both poignant and funny,” added Diaz, who is also the filmmaker behind the controversial documentary “Imelda,” which tells the story of former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

“The Learning” will be screened at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on August 14 at Power Plant Mall in Rockwell, Makati.
