Stage actor-director Behn Cervantes dies at 74
MANILA -- (UPDATE 2) Stage actor and director Behn Cervantes passed away on Thursday, August 15. He was 74.
Cervantes died at 10:15 a.m. due to pneumonia with diabetes complications, his eldest sister, Lengleng, told ABS-CBN News.
Per his wish, Cervantes' remains will be cremated today. His family requests privacy in their first three days of mourning.
Relatives, friends and supporters may not be able to pay their last respects to Cervantes as the stage actor-director does not want any wake to be held.
"Behn wanted no wake," Cervantes' brother, Tony, said in a text message to ABS-CBNnews.com.
Cervantes would have been 75 years old this August 26.
Several Filipinos, including ABS-CBN journalists, took to social media to pay tribute to the actor-director and express their condolences to his family.

Last June, Cervantes was honored by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association with its prized Lifetime Achievement Award for his service as a teacher, actor, director and theater artist.
He was also a recipient of an Aliw award for Life Achievement in Theater, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines' centennial award.
Some of Cervantes' memorable portrayals include "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" and "The Mikado," while "Guys and Dolls," "The Short, Short Life of Citizen Juan" and "Iskolar ng Bayan" are some of his best works as a director. -- With a report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
