MANILA, Philippines – Hot new cars and sexy show girls ruled the fourth Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), which recently opened at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
The PIMS will run until Sunday, August 19.
Speaking at the event, Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. said automakers are set to enjoy a windfall from the Philippines’ booming tourism industry as more Filipinos are choosing to travel by land rather than by air.
“In the domestic market, seats sold rose from 8 million seats in 2008 to 27.9 million last year. It’s clear that the demand is strong,” he said.
Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, organizer of PIMS and president of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI), said he hopes that the car show will be a tourism draw in itself.
In previous shows, the PIMS drew around 200,000 people.
