Palace: Stop picture-taking at HK tourist bus
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE 1) - The Office of the President appealed to the public to stop taking pictures at the crime scene in Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Manila where a hostage crisis resulted in the death of 8 Hong Kong tourists last Monday night.
The crisis also claimed the life of the hostage-taker, former police officer Rolando Mendoza.
Some photos showing people posing in front of the damaged bus have been circulating on social media networking sites Facebook and Twitter.
Even policemen have been caught having their pictures taken at the site.
“Nagmumungkahi na lang kami sa mga Pilipino na huwag ho natin dungisan ang nangyari doon. Let’s not try to belittle the incident. Let’s not try to trivialize the incident. Let’s respect the situation. Let’s respect the place right now. It’s a place of grief for now. We ask all Filipinos to respect that particular area,” Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.
“Our plea is for the Filipino people not to trivialize the area," Lacierda added.
The photos have sparked hundreds of negative comments and expressions of condemnation from Filipinos.
"What in the world??????!!!!!!???? Ngayon ginagawa nilang isang attraction ang crime scene???? After all what happened? ANG KAKAPAL NG MUKHA NILA!!!!!" said Kaye Michelle Villaflor in a Facebook comment thread below a picture of four policemen in uniform posing for a picture taken by another policemen with the damaged bus in their background.
A Facebook user, reacting to the post, provided a link of a blog containing more pictures.
Junel Villorente pointed to Cheftonio's Blog which carried the picture of college students in uniform smiling as another girl took their group picture. The blog was only one of several that carried the pictures.
"What are they thinking? They are just triggering more ire from the Hong Kong nationals! By tomorrow, these students would make the news for sure. Have you seen the comments from the Hong Kong nationals? We can't blame them for their strong emotions. The photo above just ignited their anger more," the blog said.
Comments in both Facebook and the blog mentioned the possibility that the pictures were edited. Either way, citizens' condemnation of the picture-taking reflected the Palace's concern of the insensitivity exhibited when people posed for pictures and used the site of the tragedy as background.
Several pages against the Philippines have also been created in Facebook. One page has as much as 69, 611 fans. Links to these pages have also been circulating through Twitter.
Online game
The Palace also asked that an online game based on the hostage crisis be taken offline, calling it "insensitive."
“I think it’s insensitive for them to trivialize the situation that caused the death of 8 Hong Kong nationals. I hope they will try to stop and refrain from trivializing this whole incident,” Lacierda said.
Hours after the hostage crisis started on Monday, a user named Keybol created a flash game called "Bus Hostage by Policeman." Keybol uploaded it on Newgrounds.com.
The game calls for a player to "shoot the amok policeman hostaging a bus full of Asian hostages."
Many reacted strongly to the online game for making fun of an event that claimed innocent lives (See story here).

Weird
Something weird is happening in this country. First, President Aquino smiled during a press conference after the hostage taking incident. Second, the police draped a Philippine flag unto Mendoza's casket as if he was a hero. Third, police and civilians had their photos taken at the crime scene.
CAN ANYONE DO SOMETHING TO THOSE PEOPLE ARE TAKING PICTURES?
The world is seriously very angry with the filipino's especially those taking pictures at the crime scene? What is going through your mind? Have you all people no conscience at all? Even worse Police and Forensic professionals? That's a big trigger to foreign nationals. And we filipino's around nation and around the world feel like giving these people a good beatings. Is this how filipino are taught? IS THIS HOW YOUR PARENTS TEACH YOU? TO DISRESPECT? These police have them demoted or get sacked, the students have them detained or worse expelled.. The world is watching and SUCH A BIG YOU PEOPLE ARE PUTTING ON!!!!!!!!!!!

Torture case
How calloused can you get?
After 9 people got killed in this bus, Pinoys are apparently enjoying getting some souvenir shots from the crime scene. Not surprising though kasi only Pinoys ang alam kong tanging nag-uuwi ng mga gold/silver spoons and forks from a five star hotel and dining restaurants after eating, FOR SOUVENIRS?! I would also bet that these are some of the idiots who voted ABNoy because they do behave alike.
Look who's talking
"Not surprising though kasi only Pinoys ang alam kong tanging nag-uuwi ng mga gold/silver spoons and forks from a five star hotel and dining restaurants after eating, FOR SOUVENIRS?"
Pinoy ka rin diba? (obvious naman sa username palang).. so marami ka rin nauwi ng mga spoon and fork? I don't agree to this picture-taking idea pero walang pupuntahan yang generalization mo. Sino ba binoto mo nung election? Malamang si Erap noh?
PNP's Finest; Bunch of Clowns!.
The Peace officers who had their pictures taken next to the crime scene that triggered an international incident ---- You are all representing the Philippines and I hope your SUPERIORS and families are proud of each one of you.
The bus-ridden bullets in the background is not a symbol of an accomplishment or success. It is a symbol of failure resulting from the incompetent, renegade gun-slinging cowboys/thugs' actions under the weak leaderships and poor decission makers of your command's finest.
Once again you continued to managed highlighting yourselves and your Institution(PNP)to the rest of the law enforcement community world-wide.
