MANILA - Barbie has "accepted" the ice bucket challenge, which aims to raise funds for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research.

A video of the iconic doll was posted Wednesday on her official YouTube account run by toy company Mattel.

"Thank you Peter Frates for nominating me to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. I'll be making a donation to ALS and I nominate all Matel employees and all of our toy fans out there to take the dare to," the doll said.

Peter Frates is one of the driving forces behind the viral campaign that is the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which has amassed a reported more than $90 million (almost P4 billion).

In the video's caption, Barbie also urged her fans to also take on the challenge and donate to the ALS Association.

Since the campaign started in the US back in July, a host of celebrities and personalities have taken up the cause. Among the inanimate objects to accept the challenge was Samsung's Galaxy S5, who in turn dared the flagship phones of both Apple and Nokia.

On the animated side, iconic character Homer Simpson has also doused himself with ice water. He nominated fellow cartoon characters Ned Flanders and actor George Clooney.

While rules vary, the ice bucket challenge generally has participants recording themselves getting poured with ice water on the head. The video is supposed to be published online within 24 hours of being challenged.

Before getting drenched, a participant can tag other people to take up the challenge. Those who refuse to do the dare are expected to donate to the ALS Association in the United States, or any foundation pursuing research on the disease.
