MANILA, Philippines - Residents of the Polish city of Krakow broke a world record by creating a 1-kilometer long pizza last Sunday, August 29, Guinness World Records (GWR) said.

"It gave me great pleasure to announce the new Guinness World Records achievement had been set at a mouth-watering 1,010 meters and 28 centimeters, a truly remarkable effort by all concerned," Raymond Marshall, GWR adjudicator, said in his article at the group's website.

Marshall shared that it took the Polish residents 18 hours to create the pizza, which was made using 3.5 tons of flour and lots of mozzarella, sweet corn, mushrooms and tomato sauce with herbs.

It beat the previous world record made by an Italian pizzeria at 407 meters.

"Starting with preparations at 2 a.m., this record attempt was an achievement which required unrivaled levels of planning, patience, team collaboration, determination and execution; demonstrating skills akin to a finely tuned military operation," he said.

He continued, "Guinness World Records will always be drawn towards extraordinary feats of human accomplishment, and in any language a one kilometer pizza is a truly astonishing achievement, one that is unlikely to be beaten for quite some time."
