MANILA, Philippines - Global beauty company Avon goes beyond its usual cosmetics, accessories and intimate apparel as it unveils a set of products for babies.

The new line, aptly called Avon Baby, includes a moisturizing lotion, a head-to-toe wash and shampoo, and a soothing oil.

The 3 products, each containing Vitamin E, aloe and chamomile, are said to be "hypoallergenic and free from parabens and dyes."

The company said these are also placed in "bottles that are easy to hold" to "allow moms to easily manipulate and apply the products on their babies."

Asked why they decided to come up with a baby line, Avon Philippines general manager Mike Gudgin said, "We want women to feel that we're with them in their journey by providing them with products that will help them along the way."

Ellys Punsalan, Avon's category manager for personal care, for her part said, "The 3 variants complete baby's total cleansing and bath cycle, making babies smell fresh and clean all day."

Earlier, physician Susan Echiverri said that it is good practice to give babies a bath twice or thrice a week.

Just like with adults, she said making babies feel fresh and clean can send them on the road to a deep, relaxing sleep.

Oils and calming lotions are also said to be effective when massaging babies who are 2 to 7 months old.

Touch therapy, studies said, helps babies improve their weight gain by 12% and is a great bonding system for parents and children.
