MANILA, Philippines – The very first key international conference on tourism in the Philippines since the country had its new administration is yet to happen on September 23 to 26.

The conference will be about furthering the appreciation of ikebana, a Japanese art of flower arrangement, since Ikebana International is a non-profit cultural organization devoted to such.

The huge gathering will be held at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel and will be attended by foreign delegates and guests from Japan, India, Taiwan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, United States, Germany, and Italy.

Ikebana International’s Manila Chapter 108 is this year’s host for the assembly. They launched a theme of oneness to commence the 11th Asian Regional Conference.

According to Evangeline Cheng, president of the Manila Chapter 108, they chose the theme of “Pagkakaisa” to exemplify their yearning to be one with everyone to advance peace, love and friendship through flowers and mutual love of nature.

Moreover, they said they are hopeful there will be no cancellations among the attendees despite the recent hostage-taking that happened in the country.

President Benigno Aquino III is the guest of honor at the event's opening ceremonies.

The event will include exhibitions of flower arrangements, a grand demonstration, bazaars and a city tour with barrio fiesta.
