Makati or Taguig? Netizens speak out on Fort Bonifacio issue
Taguig has asked the Court of Appeals to overturn an earlier decision awarding Fort Bonifacio to Makati City.
Taguig claims that the transfer of Fort Bonifacio, including Bonifacio Global City (BGC), will "necessarily impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands residents and tens of thousands of business establishments."
Makati spokesperson Joey Salgado said they hope that Taguig will have evidence to back its claim, and "convince the court that the documents it had submitted are not fake or dubious."
Due to the controversy, even Filipinos who do not live or work in Fort Bonifacio have been driven to express their opinion over what they see as the two cities' "bickering".
On Facebook, people are curious as to why Makati wants to acquire BGC just now, when it has already been developed.
O'nz Rolob said: "Taguig tlga yan.. Haist."
Maria Theresa Gavino supported this by saying, “Taguig yan!..
He added that he does not think Makati is claiming Fort Bonifacio only now because it is already developed.
"Dahil 1993 pa nila yan pinaglalaban, maunlad na ba ang bgc nun? alamin ang history," he said.
Rolly Paloma Gono, meanwhile, said the two local governments should respect the decision of the court and stop fighting over The Fort because there are more important things to attend to.
On Twitter, people pushed for the issue to be resolved as soon as possible.
However, Ryan Anthony Bogayan (@iambogy) said that Fort Bonifacio should go to Taguig: "Taguig
ang nagbayo, Taguig ang nagsaing, Binay ang kakain?"
Jocel Ramirez (@jocelrizal) contradicted Banaag and Bogayans' claims, and tweeted that "Geographically speaking BGC is within Makati's area/is
closer to Makati and farther from Taguig."
Guen Dionela (@IAmGuenDionela) said: "Di lang naman [Fort Bonifacio] lang meron sila, Makati earns 2nd highest in terms of TAXES since QC is the 1st..Greedy lang sila."
Camille Gormate (@camsgorms) said she feels that because Taguig has "owned" Fort Bonifacio for a long time, it should go to the city.
