MANILA, Philippines - Baguio's first pasta festival was a success with nearly 15,000 people sampling 500 kilograms worth of pasta dishes.

The event, held last September 3, is part of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio's (HRAB) celebration of Baguio week, which aims to spur tourism in the City of Pines.

Served in the festival are pasta dishes with different toppings and sauces, from the classic chicken, sundried tomatoes and seafood to the more unique longganisa.

A total of 8 establishments showcased their creations at SM Baguio.

"This is unique kasi homemade ito (This is unique because it's homemade)," said Nenuca Benitez, a restaurant owner.

For her part, taste tester Elma Gardose said, "Ngayon ko lang natikman ito. Masarap naman (This is the first time I've tried eating this. It's delicious)."

With the success of Baguio's very first pasta festival, organizers are now planning to feature dishes made from different kinds of rice.

Pasta, a traditional dish in Italy, is usually made of wheat, flour or eggs. These come in various lengths, widths and sizes.

Some pasta dishes are usually served with sauce and toppings, while others are filled with different ingredients. -- Report from ANC. Photos by Che Estepa, taken from the HRAB Facebook page.
