MANILA – Beauty queen Shamcey Supsup is out to debunk the superstitious belief that it is bad luck to lose the wedding ring prior to the actual ceremony.
In a taped interview with Boy Abunda for the “Ikaw Na” segment of “Bandila,” Supsup shared that she recently lost her wedding ring when she wore it while attending a beauty pageant in Nueva Ecija.
“I was wearing the promise ring and the wedding ring in one finger. Right after the pageant, when I was going down, a lot of people were taking pictures. Hindi mo maiiwasan na maraming kumakamay sa iyo. I wasn’t thinking of anything kasi hindi naman ako nasasaktan. Nung nasa hotel room na kami, pagtingin ko, isa na lang,” she narrated.
A rattled Supsup then asked fellow beauty queen Venus Raj to accompany her back to the pageant venue to look for the missing ring.
“I didn’t notice. Medyo maluwang kasi I lost weight. Siguro kung hindi na-pull 'yung kamay ko, it wouldn’t come off talaga. Wala talaga ako sa sarili ko. Binalikan ko 'yung venue. Si Venus nga kasama ko, naghahanap kami. Bumalik kami pero wala na 'yung ring,” she said.
According to superstition, it is a bad omen when a person wears the wedding ring prior to the ceremony -- much so when one loses it.
But Supsup remained confident that her wedding to boyfriend Lloyd Lee will still push through, noting that their preparations. She said they are now more focused in building their home.
“We are doing our house. 'Yun talaga ang aking focus. Masakit ang ulo sa construction. We can’t finish it before the wedding, so we will finish it after the wedding. We are not sure when. 'Yung wedding preparations, 'yung on the side lang, kasi we know it’s going to happen and other people are going to help us,” she said.
Asked what their house would look like, Supsup, an architect, said: “Modern but tropical na very environmental, wood. Gusto namin 'yung feel na parang you’re in a resort. Doon kami busy right now kasi ang daming typhoon, delay nang delay ng delay 'yung work.”
Aside from building their home, Supsup said she and Lee are also busy with their respective jobs as of the moment.
“Medyo busy muna with work. Sabi namin, ‘Sige work muna tayo.’ Kapag malapit na, siguro doon na kami pupukpukin ng coordinator namin. Siguro medyo nag-relax lang muna kami ng konti,” she said.
Exactly two years after they officially became a couple, the 2011 Miss Universe third runner-up got engaged to Lee via a Chinese ceremony last June.
