MANILA, Philippines -- Known for her easy-listening bossa nova music, Sitti Navarro will make singing more "emotional and physical" for her latest venture as an artist.

Sitti Navarro plays Our Lady of the Spa in the upcoming local staging of the musical "Nine."
Staged by Atlantis Productions, "Nine" will run from September 21 to October 7 at the Carlos
P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati.

"In terms of the music and the songs, mas malaki 'yung emotional involvement dito sa musical theater. Hindi  pwedeng i-deliver mo lang 'yung songs, according to your own interpretation," she said of her latest involvement in theater.

For the local staging of the Broadway musical "Nine," Navarro will play Our Lady of the Spa. She is among a star-studded cast including theater actor Jett Pangan and TV actress Eula Valdez.

"With the musical theater world, you have to take into consideration what the songs says, your character, at saka 'yung intention nung kanta," said Navarro, whose first role in a stage musical was for the local production of "Spring Awakening" in 2009.

"So all of that, you have to absorb it and imbibe it and sing it, and hopefully, if you are effective, the audience will get it," she added.

For the local version of "Nine," its first act especially will demand some amount of energy of its actors, according to Navarro.

"Grabe 'yung emotional and physical involvement naming lahat dito, for 'Nine.' For the whole of Act 1, babad kami sa stage, walang alisan," she said.

Joining Navarro, Pangan and Valdez in the prodcution are Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Cherie Gil, Carla Guevara-Laforteza, Ima Castro, Yanah Laurel and Jay Glorioso.

"Sobrang galing po nilang lahat. At ako, sobrang saya ko na kasama ako dito," Navarro said. "Sobrang ganda. It will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride. You will feel love and hope and sadness and regret and annoyance and so many other things."
