'Beki Queen' moving on with work amid controversy

MANILA, Philippines -- Despite getting embroiled in an estafa case filed against her father, socialite Divine Lee appears unfazed as she continues to be a visible figure on television and on the Internet.

Dubbed the "Beki Queen" on social media, Divine Lee joked that she now awaits being
officially crowned for the title: "Sana koronahan na kaagad, ang tagal ng crowning."

In a press event on Tuesday night, Lee said she is waiting for "everything to take its course" with regards to the controversy of her real-estate developer father, Delfin Lee.

"I'm not supposed to comment naman po about it. I've already said my piece. Basta ako, I do my work, I'm praying for everyone," Divine told ABS-CBN News on the sidelines of a coffee brand's event.

"Hindi po talaga ako pwede mag-comment kasi pinagalitan na po ako the last time. At least nasabi ko na naman po 'yung gusto ko sabihin before," she said.

In May, a Pampanga court issued a warrant of arrest for Divine's father, who is facing a syndicated estafa case in connection with supposed anomalies in Globe Asiatique’s (GA) Xevera housing project in Mabalacat, Pampanga. Syndicated estafa is a non-bailable offense.

A syndicated estafa case was filed against Lee and several others after GA was found to have used "ghost borrowers" and fake documents to obtain over P6.5 billion in loans from Pag-IBIG for its Xevera housing project.

In August, Malacañang said it is offering P2-milllion bounties for information that will lead to the arrests of three high-profile fugitives, among them Divine's father.

Divine, who had denied being an officer of GA, maintains she is not aware of the whereabouts of her father.

According to her recent interview with the Philippine Star, her last conversation with her father was before the the controversy on the realty firm erupted.

Currently, the socialite, who is dubbed the "Beki Queen" for her affinity with the gay community, is one of the hosts of a showbiz-oriented talk show on another network. For her latest TV stint, she covers events graced by celebrities, effectively making her a member of the entertainment press.

"Mahirap talaga. Kaya nga po kinakausap ko parati, sa inyo po talaga ako humihingi ng tulong dahil this is something new for me," she told ABS-CBN News.

"Kailangan pala ang dami kong alam na Tagalog, pag nagsusulat ako, at 'pag may event naghahabol ka ng artista," she added.

Lee seems to be enjoying being part of a "different playing field."

"Ang babait. May mga reporter na nagsasabi sa 'kin, pagpaalis na 'yung kausap mo, hawakan mo 'yung kamay, 'yung mga ganun. So it's nice kasi different game, different playing field," she said.
