WATCH: Imelda Marcos performs Chinese song
MANILA - Ilocos Norte 2nd district Rep. and former First Lady Imelda Marcos has gone beyond the song "Dahil Sa Iyo," which she performs in almost every public gathering.
In an interview with the ABS-CBN show "Tapatan ni Tunying" aired on Thursday, Marcos shared that she recently performed a Chinese song during a banquet, impressing all of the guests.
The interview was done sometime in July.
"Noong isang araw, andoon ako sa Chinese banquet eh pinakakanta ako. Eh 'Dahil Sa Iyo' na naman," said the 84-year-old lawmaker, who is known for her love for the arts and her vast collection of shoes.
"Eh medyo pinasikatan ko naman sila, pinakita ko na ang ikakanta ko sa inyo 'yung kantang tinuro sa akin ni Chairman Mao."
After her short performance, "Tapatan ni Tunying" host Anthony Taberna what the Chinese lyrics meant.
"Ewan ko," Marcos said, laughing. "Pero tuwa silang lahat. Naiintindihan nila, marami sa kanila, kumakanta rin. Maski may problema sa Spratlys, kamay sila sa akin. Kaibigan eh, kaibigan. Tapos puro 'xie xie, xie xie.' Salamat daw, salamat."
The incident, Marcos said, is proof that problems and tensions can only be resolved by "love, not guns or money."
"Alam mo, ang mundong ito hindi mananalo sa paraan ng baril o sa pera. Mananalo [kapag] magmamahalan tayo," she said.
In the interview, Marcos also shared some of her "secrets" to looking young, staying strong and having a sharp memory at age 84.
"Hindi pagkain ang nagpapalakas sa akin. Ang nagpapalakas sa akin ay pagmamahal," she said.
Marcos also credited her "youth" to stem cell therapy, with the former First Lady among the first to promote it in the country.
The wife of the late President Ferdinand Marcos first tried stem cell therapy in the 70s, way before former President Joseph "Erap" Estrada and former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.
Asked by Taberna how long it takes for her to style her hair, Marcos replied: "It takes 15 to 20 minutes. Kasi suklayin, magte-tease ka pa, siyempre itataas mo pa."
