MANILA - The Philippine Postal Corporation (Philpost) is launching another set of limited-edition Cory Aquino stamps after the first edition stamps were sold out.

Philpost sold over 70,000 limited-edition Cory Aquino stamps, priced at P7 each, shortly after they were released last September 8.

"We have not had a stamp that sells like hotcakes. The people are lining at our post offices to get their hands on [the stamps]. We hardly had enough to supply the request of the Aquino family. It is phenomenal," said Postmaster General Hector Villanueva in a press statement.

Villanueva said in the statement that the demand for Cory stamps is "driven by the continuing adulation for the late president."

Alvin Fidelson, Philpost Information Officer, told abs-cbnNEWS.com/Newsbreak in a phone interview that the agency will release about 300,000 2nd-edition Cory stamps nationwide on September 18.

He said the new stamps will sport the same designs as the first edition, but with minor changes on the position of the postmark and some texts.

Collector's item

Considered a collector's item because it is exclusively issued by Philpost branches, the se-tenant stamps (two differently-designed stamps joined side by side) bear a photo of Aquino flashing the "Laban" sign on the left, and a photo of her smiling on the right.

The stamp photos were taken by Menchit Ongpin and Marco Ruben Trinos Malto II.

Philpost had also issued yellow souvenier sheets and 400 first day cover envelopes for the Aquino family and select guests.

Fidelson said the cost of producing the stamps are all shouldered by Philpost, unlike other commemorative stamps that are funded by a proponent.

According to Philpost's website, they had already issued special stamps for Aquino in 1986, shortly after she was sworn in as President.

The agency also issued commemorative stamps for Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. on his 25th death anniversary last year.
