Kris Aquino invited to First Ladies' gathering
MANILA -- President Aquino's youngest sister, TV personality Kris Aquino, has been invited to attend a gathering of First Ladies to be held later this month on the sidelines of the United Nations' general assembly in New York City.
The 42-year-old actress-host shared a photo of the invitation, addressed to President Aquino, in a post on the image-sharing service Instagram on Tuesday.
To be held at Pierre Hotel in New York City, the 3rd Official First Ladies & Fashion 4 Development (F4D) Annual Luncheon will coincide with the 68th United Nations General Assembly.
"What an honor to be invited to represent the Philippines [to the luncheon] ... Letter just arrived today & we are doing everything to fix my schedule so I can attend," the Kapamilya star said in the photo's accompanying caption.
The luncheon is a "high-level gathering [that] unites First Ladies, diplomats, fashion VIP's and other key influencers from around the globe to recognize and celebrate the unprecedented cooperation between diplomacy and fashion for the greater good of women and children worldwide."
Noted personalities who will attend the event include Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Italia; Ban Soon-tack, First Lady of the UN; Yue-Sai Kan, Emmy-winning TV host; and Michele Sidibe, Executive Director of UNAIDS.
Addressing President Aquino, the invitation read, "It would be our honor if your sister Ms. Kris Aquino or any of your other sisters would save the date to join us in this celebration representing the Republic of the Philippines."
President Aquino has three other sisters who have similarly represented him in different capacities: Maria Elena "Ballsy" Aquino-Cruz, Aurora Corazon "Pinky" Aquino-Abellada, and Victoria Elisa Aquino-Dee.
Fashion 4 Development (F4D), as described in its press statements, is a "private sector, global organization that supports the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and the UN's 'Every Woman, Every Child' Initiative, spearheaded by the Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon."
"The mission is to harness the power of the fashion and beauty industries to implement creative strategies for sustainable economic growth, preservation of culture, wellness and independence of communities worldwide," the organization's profile reads.
This isn't the first time Aquino has fulfilled duties related to her brother's post as President.
In late 2012, the actress welcomed French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault and his wife, Brigitte Terrien, when they visited the Philippines. Aquino was also tasked to meet the families of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) chairman Al Haj Murad and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, when the historic Bangsamoro framework agreement was formalized.
At the time, Aquino explained she would normally be last in line among her sisters to represent the presidential family on such occasions.
