Eat and drink your way around Makati with Erwan
MANILA, Philippines – Food lover, cook, TV host and blogger Erwan Heussaff believes that there are several good restaurants, bars and pubs in the city that are waiting to be discovered.
An example, he said, is Blind Pig, a quiet pub that serves “the best drinks here,” and Murphy’s, which he called the “great place to hang out with friends.”
“If I grabbed anyone at the street and told them about Blind Pig, people would not know about it. If I tell people about Murphy’s, a lot of them don’t know about it,” he told ABS-CBNnews.com. “The thing is, people normally go to the same places. We want to make everyone realize that there are a variety of places to go in Makati.”
Born and raised in Makati, Heussaff believes he has a good grasp of the food and drinks scene in the city. Realizing the need for people to “move around and explore,” he introduced a relatively new concept that he got from his travels: the food and pub crawl.
“When I visit Paris or my friends in New York, it’s normal to do five bars in one night. You can really walk everywhere,” he said.
Through a partnership with the government of Makati and property giant Ayala Land Inc., Heussaff handpicked his favorite restaurants and pubs in the city, dined in all of them in one day, and featured them in a “video guide.”
He said his newest project will not only satisfy one’s palate – it will also give more restaurateurs and chefs the opportunity to shine and improve their craft.

“The more we explore, the more places will open up. This will give more people the opportunity to open up [more restaurants] and do some stuff,” Heussaff explained.
“We want people to do what I did, but you have to have a strong stomach to do that. I think instead of saying ‘hey guys, let’s go to a bar or pub,’ let’s say ‘hey let’s do a pub crawl tonight’ or ‘let’s jump from bar to bar and place to place.’ I think that’s something refreshing.”
The Makati food and pub crawl is part of the “Make It Happen, Make It Makati” campaign, which is aimed at promoting the city as a prime destination for food, arts and music enthusiasts.
Heussaff has included a handful of restaurants and pubs in his video tours, among them XO46 and Bar M in Salcedo Village, Sala Bistro, Cerveseria, Kai and M Café in Greenbelt, Murphy’s in Legaspi Village and Salon de Ning at The Peninsula Manila. He hopes that his newest effort will encourage Filipinos to explore the city.
