MANILA – Beauty queen Ariella Arida believes she can handle the pressure as the Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Russia, approaches.
This comes after the victories of Mutya Johanna Datul and Megan Young in the Miss Supranational and Miss World pageants, respectively.
Both Datul and Young were able to bring home the crown, with the Kapamilya talent making history as the first-ever Filipina to win the Miss World title since the country joined in 1966.
In an interview on “Tapatan ni Tunying” which is set to air on Thursday, Arida said she is using the pressure as a motivation to do well in the pageant.
“From the start, everyone expects me to get the title. I can handle the pressure by using it as a motivation,” she said.
She added: “To be a beauty queen was my wildest dream. I was inspired by Miriam Quiambao while I was watching her in my grade school years. I spoke to myself then and said that it was a possible dream and I could attain it.”
With just a little over a month until the much anticipated competition in November, Arida is hoping her fellow Filipinos will rally behind her just like in the previous years with Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Janine Tugonon -- who all finished in the Top 5.
“I hope the people will support me in the competition because this fight is not just about me, it’s for our country,” she added.
Raj finished fourth runner-up in 2010, Supsup finished third runner-up in 2011, while Tugonon finished first runner-up in 2012.
