Can PH also take Miss Tourism Queen crown?
MANILA -- The Philippines' Cindy Miranda is looking to bring home the third crown from an international pageant this year, following the back-to-back victories of the country in Miss Supranational and Miss World.
The 21-year-old TV host and former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate is competing in the 8th Miss Tourism Queen International pageant in Xianning, China on Thursday.
Forty-three other international candidates are reportedly participating.
"I have prepared for this my whole life, and I have been praying to win," said Miranda, who placed fourth in the 2013 Binibining Pilipinas pageant.
"I am blessed with tremendous support from my family, friends and the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. organizers and this fuels me in the competition," the 21-year-old model said.
To prepare for Miss Tourism Queen International, Miranda said she went through rigorous training, with Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up Venus Raj as one of her mentors.
The Nueva Ecija beauty also took up the renowned Dale Carengie Training, which focuses on personality development. For the international pageant's crucial Question & Answer portion, Miranda said she also had training under speech experts.
"I'm not just gunning for the crown," she said. "I want to bring home the title to give pride to the country, especially with all the calamities and problems the country is facing now."
Aiming for 'grand slam'
Miranda's participation in Miss Tourism Queen International comes after the successes of two other Filipinas in the global pageant scene.
Mutya Datul won Miss Supranational last September 7, while Megan Young was crowned the first-ever Filipino Miss World title winner last Saturday.
Referring to her fellow candidate in Binibining Pilipinas, Miranda said, "I envision myself, like Mutya, going home to the Philippines with a crown and making Filipinos proud with my victory."
"The golden batch of Binibining Pilipinas is really gearing for a grand slam this year, and we are all really working hard to bring home titles," she said.
Binibining Pilipinas 2013 winner Ariella Arida will be competing in Miss Universe in November, while Bea Rose Santiago is one of the candidates in Miss International in December.
