PH-based dancer to compete in US hip hop fest
MANILA – For the first time, a homegrown Filipino breakdancer will compete in an upcoming hip hop festival based in San Francisco on October 5.
Bea Lesaca, who is has been breakdancing for 10 years as part of the Philippine Allstars and Funk Roots Crew, will go up against seven other female breakdancers for the most coveted top award.
Also a faculty of Allstars Dance School, Lesaca has been travelling and competing in Asia for years. She has already performed for many artists including Ali Shaheed of A Tribe Called Quest, Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Craig David and Jennifer Lopez.
Although it has been ongoing for 15 years now, this would be the first time that the Mighty 4 Festival has invited a Philippine-based dancer to take part in one of hip hop’s largest events.
Having close cultural roots to the Philippines as its founder is Filipino, the organizers decided to invite someone based in the Philippines for its 15th anniversary celebration.
Guests and judges from all parts of the world are expected to grace the anticipated event.
