Ruffa on Megan: 'Nalampasan pa niya ako'
MANILA -- Actress Ruffa Gutierrez praised Megan Young, saying the Kapamilya talent really deserves to be given the Miss World crown, which she herself failed to win when she joined the pageant in 1993.
"Sa tingin ko it's already time na mapansin talaga ang beauty ng mga Filipino kasi matagal na 'yan," Gutierrez said in her guesting on "Umagang Kay Ganda" on Wednesday.
"Para sa akin if there's one girl that's deserving to win the Miss World, it's Megan kasi napakabait, napaka-hardworking," added Gutierrez, who finished second runner-up in Miss World.
Gutierrez said she's also proud that Young wants to follow in her footsteps as beauty queen.
"Siyempre proud ako, kasi sabi niya idol daw niya ako, sinabi niya yon sa 'The Buzz' at gusto niyang sundan ang aking yapak. Nalampasan pa niya kasi nanalo siya. I mean bilang isang Filipino at bilang kaibigan niya I'm very happy and proud na Megan Young won and made history," she said.
Gutierrez worked with Young on the series "I Love Betty La Fea" with Bea Alonzo in the title role.
"We were rivals, magkaaway kami. ...(mag-ate) pero mayrooon kaming rivalry. Since then we really kept in touch at masaya naman 'yung experience namin doon," Gutierrez recalled.
Currently, Gutierrez is promoting "Kung Fu Divas" starring Ai Ai delas Alas and Marian Rivera.
