MANILA – Miss World 2013 Megan Young couldn’t help but shed tears as she made her emotional homecoming at ABS-CBN on Monday night.
The Kapamilya network prepared a small gathering for the Star Magic talent who became the first Filipina to win the Miss World title at the 9501 Restaurant inside the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City, which was attended by the network’s executive committee.
According to DZMM reporter Edwin Sevidal, Young started tearing up while viewing a video tribute prepared for her.
When she was asked to speak, Young was visibly emotional as she thanked the network for their support.
Before joining Miss World, Young was part of Star Magic, ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, and has appeared in the celebrity edition of “Pinoy Big Brother.” Last year, she was also seen in the afternoon series “Hiyas.”
In her speech, Young made special mention of Star Magic chairman emeritus Johnny Manahan, fondly called “Mr. M” in the industry, and current head Mariole Alberto.
“Pinakapapasalamatan ko ngayon si Mr. M at si Miss Mariole kasi sila talaga yung nag-alalay sa akin, sila ‘yung pangalawang magulang ko,” Young said between sobs.
“Thank you, Mr. M and Ms. Mariole, kasi pinalaki niyo ako ng maganda at mabuti. Dahil sa inyo kaya ako… dahil sa confidence ko ngayon, sa Star Magic ko natutunan lahat ‘yon. Maraming salamat talaga. Siguro buo ako dahil parte na rin ang Star Magic sa buhay ko,” she said.
Before going to ABS-CBN on Monday, Young was given the Congressional Medal of Distinction by the House of Representatives, which was presented to her during the plenary session of the House.
Young, who will be based in London during her reign as Miss World, promised to make time for her home network when she is in the Philippines, saying she will still be returning to the country from time to time.
