Cebu students to compete in int'l water rocket tilt
MANILA – Two students from Cebu will represent the Philippines in an international water rocket competition.
In a statement, the Department of Science and Technology’s Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) said Mary Dorothy Dinampo and Weand Ybanez of Philippine Science High School-Central Visayas will compete at the 20th Asia Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum Water Rocket Competition, which will be held in Vietnam next month.
Dinampo and Ybanez beat 17 other schools in the national water rocket competition recently held in Bulacan after landing their rocket 2.4 meters away from the target placed 70 meters away from them.
SEI officer-in-charge Elizabeth Fontanilla said the national competition aims to inspire Filipino students to be space scientists in the future.
“It is a good feeling to make water rockets out of soda bottles and other light materials and then seeing them fly afar. We believe that this ‘good feeling’ can ultimately serve as a motivation for our kids to make bigger things through science and technology in the future,” Fontanilla said.
