OFW-owned Singaporean restaurant Nasi Lemak has been voted by its customers as the best Singaporean/Malaysian restaurant in the Philippines.
Restaurant owner Cora Lelina, who worked as a personal assistant in Singapore for 20 years, said this was the result of a survey conducted early this month among the restaurant’s clientele.
The survey is still ongoing but Lelina said that so far, 93 percent of the respondents say Nasi Lemak is the best Singaporean/Malaysian restaurant in the country.
Singaporean Consultant to Lelina Hung Kwang “HK” Tan said their food really stands out because of its freshness – the food is prepared just before the restaurant opens at 11.
Lelina admits that it was Tan, the best friend of her late boss, who originally convinced her to return to Manila and set up a restaurant after her Finnish employer of 20 years died of a brain tumor.
Lelina refers to Tan as “my business consultant.”
The shy Lelina lets Tan do most of the talking to customers at "Nasi Lemak," a cozy little place along Morato in Quezon City which can seat between 60 to 100 people.
"Nasi Lemak" is also a popular breakfast dish in Malaysia and Singapore consisting of rice boiled in coconut milk, fish, chicken wings, cucumber and eggs.
Lelina’s restaurant, however, serves more than just Nasi Lemak but also Tom Yum Seafood Soup, Kueh Pai Ti, Hainanese Chicken, Fried Squid with Salt and Pepper, Penang Char Kway Teow, Honey Glazed Ribs, Braised “Cotton Tofu” with Roast Pork and Chinese Mushroom, and the popular Chili Crab.
