'Top 20 schools in PH' list is fake, says PRC
MANILA, Philippines – A list of “top 20 schools in the Philippines” which has gone viral on social networking sites is fake, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
Norman de Guzman, officer-in-charge of PRC’s Public Information and Media Relations Department, made it clear that the agency has not released such a list, which is “based on the average passing in the board examinations of all courses of all universities and colleges in the Philippines.”
It showed campuses of the University of the Philippines – Diliman, Los Baños and Manila – on the Top 3, followed by Silliman University in Dumaguete and Ateneo de Davao University.

“Nagre-release lang po kami ng information based on our website,” de Guzman told ABS-CBNnews.com in a phone interview, referring to PRC’s website (www.prc.gov.ph).
“Wala po kaming Facebook o Twitter,” he added. “At ang list ng top performing schools na nire-release namin ay based on the regulated professions, for example ‘yung top schools for nursing, hindi ‘yung general list for all professions.”
The list, according to a photo posted on what appears to be the Facebook page of the UPLB Institute of Human Nutrition and Food, showed that the study is “a result of the study conducted every 10 years” by PRC and the Commission on Higher Education.
De Guzman reiterated that PRC’s Educational Statistics Division led by Alfonso Viloria is “continuous” in conducting studies as opposed to every decade.
“The list is fake. Hindi naman every ten years ang ginagawang study ng Educational Statistics task force,” he explained.
De Guzman said the public should first turn to PRC’s website before sharing such lists on Facebook. To date, the so-called list of top 20 schools in the country has over 4,000 shares on the social media site.
“Ang lahat ng information ay lalabas sa aming website,” he said.
