McDonald's PH adds cookie butter ice cream to menu
MANILA – It seems that the cookie butter craze has hit even the local franchise of a fast food giant.
McDonald’s Philippines is now selling the Cookie Butter McFlurry, which features the so-called “hipster” spread mixed into soft serve ice cream.
The McFlurry also comes in Oreo and Merry Berry flavors.
The Cookie Butter McFlurry was silently introduced to Philippine consumers as "holiday sweet pleasures" along with the Merry Berry variant, as well as other “hip” desserts like the Salted Caramel Sundae and the Coffee Float.
Known for its rich gingerbread flavor, cookie butter is made of ground cookies and oil. It was initially offered as an alternative to the ubiquitous peanut butter spread.
Similar to the croissant-donut hybrid called the “cronut,” the cookie butter now has many incarnations in the Philippines, from cookies and brownies to hot chocolate, polvoron and even ensaimada.
Other chefs have also attempted to make their own cookie butter instead of buying the popular Trader Joe’s products.
