WATCH: Ariella Arida in 'truth and dare' game
MANILA – The Philippines’ Ariella Arida gamely acted like a chicken for a web-exclusive series put up by organizers of this year’s Miss Universe pageant.
All the Miss Universe 2013 contestants were made to participate in the classic “Truth and Dare” game, where they each answered a question and did something that was out of the box.
In Arida’s case, it was to “act like a chicken across the room.”
For the game’s “truth” portion, the 24-year-old Laguna lass was asked the question: “What do you miss most about being a kid?”
She replied by saying: “So what I miss the most about being a kid is being fearless, young and carefree. Because when we were young, when I was a kid, I don’t have to carry any problems in my life. I just have to look for food when I am hungry, or ask for playmates when I am bored. So that is what I miss the most when I was a kid.”
Arida was recently chosen as one of the five Miss Universe 2013 candidates who participated in a photo shoot for an event of the luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz.
She was joined by beauty queens from Puerto Rico, Poland, Spain and Russia for the shoot of Mercedes-Benz, one of the sponsors of the international pageant.
The Miss Universe 2013 coronation night will be held in Moscow, Russia on November 9.
‘I’m doing my best’
Arida is hoping to surpass the successes of her last three predecessors in Miss Universe – Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Janine Tugonon – who all finished in the international pageant’s Top 5.
She is also facing some pressure following the Miss World win of the Philippines’ Megan Young.
In a phone interview with reporters last Tuesday, Arida said she is doing her best to bring home the crown while enjoying the pre-pageant activities.
“Basta ako, I’m doing my best sa lahat. At the same time, ini-enjoy ko. Hindi ko masyadong tinitignan kung sinong [mas magaling] or what, alam mo ‘yon. Kasi baka makaapekto pa siya sa akin. So basta ako, ini-enjoy ko lang po,” she said.
“Every time I have mga schedule or events, dapat palaging maganda, at ginagawa ko talaga ang best ko,” she added.
Meanwhile, Arida said she feels honored to be among the “online favorites” in the Miss Universe pageant.
“Iyon ‘yung talagang nakakapagpa-uplift sa akin, nakakapagpa-motivate. Kasi every day we have these schedules. Siguro in the morning, we have schedules, and then in the evening we have events and cocktail parties.
“So sa gabi, sobrang pagod ka na. Pero ‘pag nalaman mo na, wow, part ka nga ng mga favorites nila, parang nakaka-uplift talaga ng spirits at mas ginaganahan kang gawin ‘yung mga bagay-bagay every day,” she said.
