MANILA, Philippines – Members of the British boy band One Direction expressed their excitement to meet their Filipino fans and are looking forward to visiting the country soon.

One Direction is one of the newest celebrity endorsers of local clothing brand Penshoppe, having starred in a 20-second clip titled “Penshoppe Goes One Direction,” which was uploaded on the web last month.

In an interview with The Philippine Star entertainment editor Ricky Lo in London, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson recognized their strong fan base in the country.

“We’ve got lots of fans in the Philippines. Sometimes we connect to them through hashtag,” said Payne. “It’s nice to be known in a country that you’ve never been to. We would love to go there some time.”

“Oh, the Filipino fans are interesting!” added Styles. “As Liam said, we’d love to visit the Philippines one of these days and personally say ‘Hi!’ to our fans out there.”

Tomlinson added: “Yes, we do look forward to coming down to the Philippines. Our fan base is really, really strong down there. They are very good. I hope that we can get a chance to go to the Philippines in the next couple of years.”

“You see, we see so many people on Twitter and many of them are from the Philippines,” Horan said.

For his part, Malik said: “Hi to everybody in the Philippines!”

Despite their enthusiasm about the Philippines, the members of One Direction did not mention any concrete plans of visiting the country. Penshoppe has not announced anything, either.

In The Philippine Star report, the British singers also answered a number of slumbook questions, which gave readers a glimpse of their hobbies and interests. For instance, Horan said he is left-handed and has a soft spot for girls with green eyes. Malik, on the other hand, said he is attracted to “intelligent girls.”

Payne is an avid fan of boxing, Styles’s favorite song is “Free Falling” by John Mayer, and Tomlinson said his worst habit is “talking too much.”

One Direction is the newest addition to Penshoppe’s roster of foreign endorsers. Hollywood actor Zac Efron, best known for his role as Troy in the “High School Musical” series, arrived in the Philippines last September for a fan conference for the brand.

Penshoppe’s other endorsers include “Gossip Girl” stars Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick, “The Vampire Diaries” actor Ian Somerhalder, and Thai idol Mario Maurer, who has a movie with Kapamilya actress Erich Gonzales.
