In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday, Karylle said she felt nervous during her turn at the auditions, which she described as the longest one minute of her life.
“Nakakanerbyos but it is so overwhelming kaya nga nagulat na naiiyak ako after. I guess that’s really the feeling that you get when you do an audition. For me, it’s almost like nagra-ride ka sa roller coaster. Kahit round one pa lang iyon, it’s a big deal for me,” she said.
Asked what she thinks impressed the “Miss Saigon” director the most in her audition piece, she said: “I don’t know but there was a part where I saw na napatingin yung director so natuwa naman ako na kahit papaano, kahit hindi perfect ang pagkakanta ko, siyempre ninenerbyos din ako.”
Karylle, who sang “I’d Give My Life For You” during her tryout, said she is glad the staff of “Miss Saigon” held the auditions in the Philippines.
“Siyempre that speaks a lot about the Filipinos who have been part of the cast through the years. Nakakatuwa. 'Yung katabi ko nga galing pang Singapore and it’s nice to know na everyone’s flying in for this,” she said.
While she did not reveal which character in particular she wants to portray, Karylle said: “Siyempre, I think [being Kim] is every Asian girl’s dream role.”
Other talents who reportedly made it to the callbacks include Star Magic singer-actress Tippy dos Santos, Manila-born Singaporean singer-actress Julia Abueva and veteran theater actor Jake Macapagal.
The much-awaited Manila auditions for the “Miss Saigon” revival started on Monday and continues until Thursday, November 22 at the Philippine Opera Company’s headquarters in Makati.
According to the website BroadwayWorld.com, seen during the “Miss Saigon” registration over the weekend were theater actors K-La Rivera, Caisa Borromeo, James Stacey, Topper Fabregas, OJ Mariano, Yanah Laurel, Sitti Navarro and Josh Ramirez. - with a report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
