Pinoy DJ group rocks top dance clubs in London
LONDON (UPDATED) - Over the past decades, London has been known as the dance club capital of the world. Many of the leading clubbing brands such as Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi and many other DJ groups started here.
A Filipino DJ group named Frequency Manila has joined the ranks of movers and shakers in the British clubbing circuit.
Frequency Manila is a DJ group co-founded by Ryan Pamatmat in 2008 together with Pav Parotte. Pamatmat, who grew up in Manila, had always dreamt of playing in the popular clubs that produced the CDs he listened to, such as Ministry of Sound. So in 2009, he decided to expand his horizons and bought a one-way ticket to the UK.
His dream eventually became a reality when he was able to land gigs in underground clubs such as The White House, Club Aquarium, Raduno, Queen of Hoxton, The Russian, The Brickhouse, Gigalum, Lockside - Camden Lock, Cargo and Dex.
In 2010, he and Parotte did their first UK tour. Eventually, the DJ group became known to top global clubbing brands such as Pacha and Ministry of Sound.
Partying with the Frequency Manila team
I was invited by Pamatmat to experience their Pinoy brand of partying that has been rocking the London club circuit.
First, we went to Pacha London, a night club brand that originated in Ibiza. We were welcomed by their gracious A-list promoters, John Duckett and Vanessa Horca.
Pacha is the No. 3 dance club in the world this year, according to DJ Magazine. It has branches all over the world and has hosted all the biggest DJs.
"It felt awesome the first time I did Pacha," said Pamatmat, who said that Frequency Manila has played in Pacha's main room numerous times.
The vibe at Pacha London was great. It had several rooms that were carefully stylized to live up to their global quality. The crowd was posh and stylish, and people went crazy to the glam clubbing tunes.
Light Box Vauxhall London
The next day, we were invited by the Frequency Manila team to check out a special party by Sub Tracked UK in Light Box Vauxhall.
Light Box is more of an underground club, and is known for its wild electronica parties. It has three rooms full of lights and laser shows, thus the club's name.
The Lightbox party was awesome, and people were really enjoying the synergy of good music and lights. Pamatmat's DJ set was pumping. I specifically enjoyed it when he mixed in a version of the Him Self Her track titled "Gone too Long ".
|According to Pamatmat, this track has been sitting in the Nu Disco Charts as No. 1 for seven weeks.|
Frequency Manila has also ventured into producing its own tracks as it aims to reach out to clubbers and music fans around the world.
Visit Frequency Manila's webpage for their gig schedules and announcements. People in the Philippines may also check out other Frequency Manila DJs in Manila. They have regular gigs in a resident club called Time located in Makati Avenue.
