A quick trip around gadget shops these days showed that cellphones, televisions and laptops are on top of everyone's Christmas wish list. Before you burn that hole in your wallet though, here are some tips in getting the best gadgets.

When looking for a snazzy new cellphone, you might want to check out first if the memory card on the phones are hot swappable. The feature allows the user to switch memory cards without turning off the mobile phone.

Camera phones are also starting to muscle up in features but remember it's not always about the megapixels.

"Tingnan mo ‘yong klase ng lens na ino-offer. Iba standard lens lang, walang autofocus. So, mas magandang merong autofocus na feature," said tech blogger Abe Olandres, information technology (IT) consultant.

For flat screen TVs, size doesn’t always matter. Be sure to look for features that you are actually going to use.

“It is also best to get a high contrast ratio because in high contrast ratio you get the black darker and the white much whiter; in between all the colors seem to look much better,” Sam Chua, a home theater specialist, said.

Finally, for laptops, be sure to know what size of laptops best fit your lifestyle.

"First of all ‘yong screen, it has to be at least 10 inches ng screen para mas malaki. And then ang size ng keyboard, merong lumalabas 92 percent, 95 percent of the original keyboard," said IT expert Jerry Liao.

Don’t be ashamed to ask for discounts, even in big appliance stores, because, who knows, you might get best deal if you play your cards right. ABS-CBN News Channel
