June Keithley passes away
MANILA -- (UPDATED) Host June Keithley-Castro, who played a crucial role in the 1986 EDSA Revolution, died early Sunday evening at the Saint Luke's Medical Center after years of battling cancer.
Keithley, who was married to the late broadcaster Angelo Castro Jr., died at 6:35 p.m. at the Quezon City hospital, according to her son Diego.
The family said the wake will be held at the St. Ignatius Church inside Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City starting Monday.
Keithley is best known as the voice on Radyo Bandido, who called on people to take to the streets which eventually led to the first People Power uprising at EDSA.
"June Keithley-Castro’s battle with cancer–which she had waged since 2009–is at an end. To her last breath she exemplified courage and faith. Her courage enabled her to confront her illness, but also that of her husband, Angelo Castro Jr., whose death we all mourned in 2012, with dignity and the kind of serenity that can only come from an uncompromising faith in the goodness of God and trust in His plan for all things. As we pause to pay her tribute, we believe we speak for the nation in extending our deepest sympathy to her children," said Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda in a statement.
Keithley was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.
