Pinoys decry Arroyo transfer drama

MANILA - Filipinos were not happy with the confusion surrounding Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's hospital transfer on Friday.

The Arroyo camp was again beset with criticisms in social media sites Twitter and Facebook for the so-called ‘drama’ regarding her mode of transport from St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City.

“Madam, and daming arte ha. Itigil mo ‘yan. Eh kung doon kaya sa nabanggit mo sa dati mong [State of the Nation Address] na bangkang papel ka isakay?” said activist Jeff Crisostomo on Twitter.

User kj3tweets, meanwhile, said that Arroyo should just go and move.  “I don’t care as long as [Arroyo’s transfer does not cause a traffic jam].”

Many jumped on Arroyo spokesperson Elena Bautista-Horn’s statement that Mrs. Arroyo is willing to take a taxi to VMMC, as long as she is not forced to travel by air.

“Talaga lang ha? Sige  nga!” arajungco dared the former President, and user iamafanofjvf quipped that maybe there should be an operation “Put the Little Girl in Chopper.”

Others said, maybe she should just ride a wheelchair all the way to VMMC, or maybe use a catapult.

Not all people thought the Arroyo camp’s concern was unjustified, however.

“I’m not Pro-GMA but I feel for them. Di rin ako lilipad sa ganitong weather at kung wala sa usapan,” said Karen Diez on Twitter.

This was echoed by Senator Aquilino 'Koko' Pimentel III, whose official Twitter said today’s weather “is not ideal for flying.”

This morning, journalist Raffy Santos said that the impasse over whether Arroyo will be transferred by air or land was “shaping up to be a doozy,” as he received conflicting reports about Arroyo’s mode of transport.

As of press time, the police and the Arroyo camp had agreed that the former president will be transported by air later in the day.
