MANILA, Philippines - This year, Internet-using Filipinos beamed with pride as some of their fellowmen were internationally recognized in their respective fields.

Leading the list of Yahoo! Inc.'s list of the most searched Filipino achievers on the web is Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, the first to win 8 boxing titles in 8 different weight divisions.

Pacquiao last fought Mexican boxer Antonio "Tijuana Tornado" Margarito in November, and won via unanimous decision.

"Pacquiao being the top search illustrates how Filipinos continue to be proud of the continuous triumphs that their fellow countrymen are reaching as they become more visible in the global setting," the search engine said in a statement.

Yahoo! continued, "Year 2010 was indeed a year of Filipino pride. Reflected in the Year in Review is how the Philippines united when a fellow Filipino takes center stage in the global spotlight."

The Pambansang Kamao (National Fist) was followed by Maria Venus Raj, a 22-year-old lass from Camarines Sur who placed fourth runner-up in this year's Miss Universe pageant.

The 5'9 beauty with a 22-inch waistline is widely believed to have had a strong chance of winning the crown, but this was derailed by a "killer question" from American actor William Baldwin.

Raj's answer to Baldwin's question gave birth to the popular expression, "major major," loosely defined by netizens as "extravagant" or "outlandish."

Landing on the third spot is international singing sensation Charice, who got to appear in a Hollywood movie, a hit American television series, major international concerts and tree-lighting ceremonies in the United States, among others, this year.

Dubbed by Oprah as the Most Talented Girl in the World, Charice has catapulted to international chart-topping success.

Just recently, she received an award from a local bank for being a source of Pinoy pride.

Just as Filipinos searched for Pinoy proud moments online, they also turned to the Internet to look for more details on this year's hottest local celebrity news and gossip.

According to Yahoo!, the most searched showbiz topic for 2010 is Anne Curtis' wardrobe malfunction during a summer special episode of ABS-CBN musical variety show ASAP XV in Boracay.

A photo of Curtis' foul frock foul-up circulated in social networks and was published on local tabloids. The young actress said she looked at these publications with "contempt," but chose not to take legal action against them.

"Also seen this year is the Filipino's love for celebrity scandal and gossip as evidenced by the number of people who went on Yahoo! to find out the latest reports on local stars," Yahoo! said.

Another hot topic for 2010 is the controversial Kris Aquino-James Yap split, which was searched under the name "separate lives." Aquino made the announcement last June on The Buzz, where she used to be a host.

Third on the list of Yahoo!'s most searched celebrity news is actress Marian Rivera's so-called verbal assault of budding star Bela Padilla. Rivera reportedly got infuriated after Padilla got too close to her real-life boyfriend, hunk actor Dingdong Dantes, in one of their scenes.

Rivera and Padilla reportedly patched things up soon after with the help of network executives.
