Fernando Carrillo, Korina Sanchez reunite after 12 years
MANILA, Philippines – Venezuelan actor Fernando Carrillo, known to Filipinos for his role as Fernando Jose in the hit series “Rosalinda”, dropped by the radio DZMM studio on Friday to visit veteran broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez.
They first met in 2000, when Sanchez interviewed Carrillo for her television program “The Correspondents”.
After giving Sanchez a kiss on the cheek, Carrillo said: “I’m so glad to be here with my beautiful friend, talented, smart Korina. How are you?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine. They still think I’m Thalia of the Philippines,” the broadcaster said in jest, referring to Carrillo's leading lady in "Rosalinda".
“You are better than Thalia,” Carrillo replied. “I [remember] you grow up, you were a little baby [then] and now you’re a bigger baby. And now she grew up and now she’s married.”
Sanchez, who married Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas in 2009, told the hunk actor: “You’re too late.”
After teasing Sanchez, Carrillo went on to say that he really wanted to see the broadcaster during his visit to the ABS-CBN compound. He was interviewed on the ABS-CBN News Channel this morning.
“I’m so happy I was here next door, I said ‘I wanted to see Korina”, he said.
To which Sanchez replied: “Wow, that’s great. You never forgot. I’m very memorable.”
Carrillo then invited Sanchez and her husband to spend the week with him in Cancun.
“This is a card. I want to invite you and your husband, and your future kids, or no kids, to spend the week with us in Cancun. I will take care of everything,” he said, adding “I love you.”
Flattered by the invite, Sanchez said: “I love you, Fernando.”
For his future acting and singing projects in the Philippines, Carrillo will be managed by Viva founder Vic del Rosario and music producer Christian de Walden.
If given a chance, Carrillo said he would like to do a musical series similar to “Glee” with the country’s top young artists.
