Candidates show off their national costumes during the event.
Some candidates, like Miss Puerto Rico, Miss Romania, Miss Guam and Miss Guatemala, show their sexy bodies as if they were almost naked.
Some came in colorful and trendy designs that symbolize their traditions in their respective country.
Green, gold, red and glittering colors came in style for a holiday theme for many candidates, just like Miss Guyana, Honduras, Mexico and Miss Venezuela.
Grandiose head dresses, feathers, as well as birds were this year’s themes for candidates such as British Virgin Islands, Colombia, Ecuador, Indonesia and Panama.
Miss Netherlands’ pinwheel costume was also striking.
Miss Philippines’ Maranao-inspired gown from the Southern Philippines was stunning as her crown shines like a genuine Miss Universe crown.
"Maranao-inspired, kasi ‘yun talaga ‘yung bagay sa akin na pinagpilian,” Janine Tugonon said.
Many kababayans flew all the way from Chicago to show their support for Tugonon.
"I think she carried it very well. She had amazing poise and elegance and her walk is simply regal,” said US-based Filipina Jenny.
Tugonon’s mom was the proudest as she watched her daughter Janine strut off her walk on stage.
"Actually, not really nervousness pero parang ‘yung so proud of my daughter na talagang I’m having goose bumps every time she walks the stage. Talagang iba ang projection niya,” said Tess Tugonon.
In a few days, the coronation night for Miss Universe 2012 will take place at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino.
Tugonon is asking kababayans from all over the world to pray for her success.
