Why 'Sisterekas' is a 'monumental' film
Comedy flick Graded B by CEB
MANILA, Philippines -- One of the lead stars of "Sisterakas" is confident that the upcoming comedy flick may be the "best thing" to happen to the most popular locally held film festival.
"This is the best thing na nangyari dito sa film fest, kasi ngayon lang kami magkakasamang tatlo," Vice Ganda said in a "Take One" interview chronicling behind-the-scenes development for the project.
In the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry, Vice Ganda portrays Bernice, described by scriptwriter Danno Kristoper Mariquit as a "rich gay man who is the lord of apparels."
Bernice unwittingly hires as his secretary his long-lost sister Detty (Ai Ai delas Alas), "isang butihing ina na gusto lang magtrabaho para sa kanyang mga anak."
Kris Aquino, meanwhile, plays the "eccentric Lady Gaga of the fashion industry," whose company rivals that of Detty's.
"Ito 'yung pagsasama ng talagang lahat ay may record sa box-office. 'Yung pagsasama nila alam mong isang malaking bomba, bomba ng katatawanan," the movie's director Wenn V. Deramas of the team-up.
The box-office director worked with Vice Ganda in the 2011 comedy flick "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin," which is currently the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time.
Dubbed the country's "Queen of All Media," Aquino's decades-long showbiz career is also decorated with numerous box-office successes on the big screen, notably the horror films "Sukob" (2006) and "Segunda Mano" (2011).
For her part, delas Alas is popular for her "Tanging Ina" film franchise, which has become a staple presence at the annual MMFF. The latest in the series released last year, "Enteng ng Ina Mo," went on to become the all-time highest grossing entry to the MMFF.
Of her co-stars in "Sisterakas," Aquino said, "Ipinagkaloob ng Diyos sa kanila 'yung talent na meron sila para makapagpasaya sila ng mga pilipino, and this is a monumental film dahil napagsama silang dalawa."
On Thursday, the Cinema Evaluation Board announced that the film has been Graded B.
Also starring Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla and Xyriel Manabat, "Sisterakas" hits theaters nationwide on Christmas Day.
